Jasmine Habersham, a native of Macon, Georgia, is a junior at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. She is a Vocal Performance major and is currently studying under Dr. Matthew Hoch.
Jasmine has performed several roles at Shorter College Opera Theatre including Dido in Dido and Aenea, Casilda in The Gondoliers, Laetitia in The Old Maid and the Thief and Neomie in Cedriillon. Her most recent role was Der Sandmann in Hansel and Gretel. As a member of the Shorter Chorale, Jasmine had the experience of performing in a mass service at St. Peter’s Basilica at Vatican City as well as performing in various cities of Italy in May, 2008. Habersham was given the opportunity to participate in the Sieur DuLuth Opera Festival at the University of Minnesota is July, 2008 where she performed as a member of the choruses in Il Trovatore! and Samson and Delilah.
Jasmine was selected via national auditions to participate in the prestigious 2009 Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, North Carolina. She performed as a Lay Sister and Chorus member in Suor Angelica and has performed in the choruses of The Tales of Hoffman and Hello Dolly.
Habersham’s musical family gave her the love of performing. She credits the development of her talents to Jerry and Janice Habersham, Carolyn Guy, Susan McDuffie, Dr. Matthew Hoch, Allen Evans, Nadine Whitney, Rita Davis and Charles Hernandez.
Her vocal talents have availed her many honors including Concerto Competition Alternate winner with a solo performance with the Macon Symphony Orchestra in the spring of 2007. Jasmine also received the 2007 Golden Eagle Award in Music sponsored by the Macon Telegraph. Her performances include First Night Macon’s “Stars of Tomorrow”, Bibb County Public Schools Convocation 2007, Cherry Blossom Festival and Theatre Macon’s “Sound of Music.”
Jasmine has also won several awards at both State and regional in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions.
